The Varakļāni District (Varakļānu novads) is located in Latvia .

The district is located in the east of the country, in the Latgale region .
population
Since 2009 there has been an administrative community of the city of Varakļāni with two neighboring municipalities, namely with the municipality of Murmastiene and with the rural municipality of Varakļāni (Latvian: Varakļānu Pagasts ).
In 2018, a total of 3310 inhabitants were registered in the Varakļāni administrative district, 702 of them in Murmastiene and 715 in the rural municipality of Varakļāni, the rest in the city of Varakļāni. At the 2011 census, 93.3% of them declared themselves to be ethnic Latvians, 4.9% said they belonged to the Russian minority and 1.8% of other ethnic minorities.
