The district area is located in the north of the country east of the Bay of Riga .

population

Since 2009 the municipalities Raiskums (1604 inhabitants), Stalbe (1228 inhabitants) and Straupe (1412 inhabitants) have formed an administrative community with a total of 4,244 inhabitants (July 1, 2014). The administration building is in Straupe .
