The Baltinava District (Baltinavas novads) is located in eastern Latvia on the border with Russia in the historic Latgale region .
geography
The rural and sparsely populated area is rich in forests. The eastern border of the district is also the state border and thus also the EU eastern border. The Kūkova River flows through the district and there are extensive swamps in the west .
population
The district consists of the municipality (pagast) Baltinava , which is also the administrative center. 1351 inhabitants (2009) live in the Baltinava region.
