The Burtnieki District (Burtnieku novads) is located in northern Latvia in the historic Vidzeme countryside .
geography
In the district lies the Burtnieker See (Latvian: Burtnieku ezers ), south of it lies Burtnieki. The protected riverbank meadows are a meeting place and nesting place for numerous species of birds.
population
The district consists of the five municipalities (pagasts) Ēvele, Matīši, Rencēni, Valmiera (Land), Vecate and the administrative center Burtnieki . 8487 inhabitants (2010) live in the Burtnieki district.
