The district of Aloja (Alojas novads) is located in northern Latvia on the border with Estonia in the historic Vidzeme landscape .

A total of 5584 inhabitants (July 1, 2014) live in the Aloja district on an area of ​​630.7 km². The district consists of two cities and four parishes (pagasts)

• Aloja land with 905 inhabitants,
• Braslava with 656 inhabitants,
• Brīvzemnieki with 1023 inhabitants,
• Staicele city with 1078 inhabitants,
• Staicele land with 620 inhabitants and
• the administrative center of Aloja town with 1302 inhabitants.
