The district is located in the western part of the country in the Kurzeme region .

population

The Talsi district has existed since 2009, and most of the communities in the former district joined it. In 2010, 34,443 residents lived in the four cities and 14 rural parishes of the district. Over 95% of the population describe themselves as Latvians. Russians are the largest of the 22 minorities.
