Rēzeknes novads is an administrative district in eastern Latvia. The district office is located in Rēzekne , although this city as the so-called republic city itself does not belong to the district. The district consists of 25 parishes of the former Rēzekne district ( Latvian : Rēzeknes apriņķis , since 1949 Rēzeknes rajons ), which was dissolved in 2009. (See also: Administrative division of Latvia ). There are 32,130 registered residents (2009).
Historically part of the Livonia Voivodeship ( trakt rzeżycki , 1629–1772), the Vitebsk Governorate ( Режицкий уезд , 1802–1917).

nature
The area is rural and is located on the Latgallian heights and in the valley of the Daugava . Also contains the two largest lakes of Latvia on the territory: The Lake Lubāns and Rāzna Lake . The humid lowlands around Lake Lubān are home to a variety of rare life forms, e.g. B. 224 different bird species, 44 of which are endangered.
