Linda Elisabeth "Lizzi" Borden (born February 3, 1958 in Detroit ) is an American director. She became known for her feminist science fiction film Born in Flames , released in 1983 .

Life

Lizzie Borden is the daughter of a stockbroker. At the age of eleven, she is said to have changed her first name Linda to "Lizzie" after hearing a nursery rhyme about Lizzie Borden , who was suspected of murder .

Jean-Luc Godard 's films inspired her to become a director herself. Her first work was the black and white film Regrouping in 1976 . After completing her art studies at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, she moved to New York to work as an artist and art critic. After the success of her science fiction film Born in Flames , she shot the feature film Working Girls in a documentary style in 1986 about a lesbian photographer who also works as a high-class prostitute .

With her films, Borden explores the complexity of female sexuality. She shot soft porn videos for Playboy magazine .
