LizzyNet is a free, German-speaking online community aimed exclusively at girls. It is at the same time an information, communication and learning platform, the core of which is the interaction options in chats, forums and clubs. The majority of users who are referred to as Lizzys are between 12 and 22 years old.

Origin and development

LizzyNet was founded in 2000 and was created in connection with the Federal Government's program of action for innovation and jobs in the 21st century and was subsequently incorporated into the Information Society Germany 2006 program . accepted. Until the end of 2007, LizzyNet received funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Social Fund as part of the Schools on the Net initiative . The aim was to get young women more enthusiastic about technical professions and courses. At the beginning of the project, therefore, the focus was in particular on career orientation and imparting media skills. In the further process, an active, editorially supervised community was created in which girls can discuss topics that are important to them. From 2008 to 2009 LizzyNet was a 100% subsidiary of the M. DuMont Schauberg group . In 2010, the portal was taken over by its editorial team in the form of a GbR , now the legal form of LizzyNet is a GmbH .

concept

The conception of LizzyNet represents a mixture of communication, magazine and learning platform, which offers girls an opportunity to design the Internet themselves. The following content is covered in the individual areas:

magazine

The magazine content consists of editorially designed content, which is made up of daily headlines and key topics such as B. on nutrition, mangas and computer games. There are also psychological tests and games in which you can test your knowledge of topics such as pop, foreign words and general knowledge. There are regular competitions and raffles.

LizzyNet is characterized by a participatory approach that consciously promotes a competent use of digital media in every respect. A participation form that has become a fixture on LizzyNet is, in the section Join the write with action. Here the girls are asked to submit texts and are given writing tips. The LizzyPress section publishes reviews of the Lizzy's books, music, films and computer games. For this purpose, the editors regularly provide copies to registered users. Self-written articles are also published in the magazine area on topics such as friendship, love and trends. Overall, there is a lively exchange between users and the editorial team.

Community

Only registered users are allowed to join the community. For the protection of minors, a mobile phone verification is required, which consists in entering a mobile phone number when registering, to which the access code to LizzyNet is then sent via SMS. This means that every user is clearly identifiable and can be found in the event of any violations.

The community offers the girls many options: They get their own e-mail address, can send each other private messages, or exchange information in chats and forums on all topics that interest them. In the so-called clubs, you can discuss special topics such as music and hobbies, but also bullying and professional orientation with other Lizzys. Registered members also receive free online storage space on which they can create their own homepage using a modular system. Free ring tones and mobile phone logos can also be downloaded and e-cards can be sent. The editors and the LizzyScouts , who are long-term users selected by the editors, ensure that the provisions of the protection of minors are observed . The LizzyScouts also stimulate discussions, answer questions, moderate forums and chats and show presence on the platform.

Learning platform

In the areas of know-how and the world of work, there are various e-learning offers that convey various topics in an interactive and playful way, e.g. B. in a workshop on how to write a detective story yourself or create your own podcast . Girls are also offered assistance with choosing a career, training and studying. In an application training course that has been awarded the German Multimedia Award, young women can familiarize themselves with the requirements in application processes. In addition, young women are encouraged to take up non-traditional women's professions and courses of study.
