Ljubiša Samardžić

Ljubiša Samardžić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Љубиша Самарџић ; born November 19, 1936 in Skoplje , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; †  September 8, 2017 ) was a Serbian actor and director .

His talent for acting showed up early on and he was awarded a scholarship to the Belgrade Drama Academy. His mentor was the director Bojan Stupica . Samardžić played in the theater before getting his first role in the 1961 film Igre na skelama . He quickly became one of the most popular actors in Yugoslavia. Many of his films were box office hits. An international audience was called on by starring in Purisa Djordjevic anti-war film A Serbian Morning known for it in 1967 with the Best Actor Award of the Film Festival of Venice was honored. At the Sofia Film Fest 2012, his film The Scent of Rain in the Balkans , which filmed the novel of the same name by the Serbian-Sephardic writer Gordana Kuić, was presented .

Among his prizes is the Ivo Andrić Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement. In August 1995 he received the Pavle Vuisić Prize for his life's work and his role in Yugoslav film.

With his son Dragan Samardžić, he founded the film production company Cinema Design .

Since 1960 he was married to Mirjana Samardžić.
