career

The 1.96-meter-tall builder and winger came to Red Star Belgrade in 1967 from KK Sloga . With the Red Star he was Yugoslavian champion in 1969 and 1972 and won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1974. With the Yugoslav national team, Simonović was world champion in 1970 and vice-European champion in 1969 and 1971. In 1972 he took part in the Olympic Games in Munich .

In 1976 he left Belgrade and moved to 1. FC Bamberg in the German basketball league . With 544 points scored during the Bundesliga main round in 1976/77, Simonović was the best basket scorer in the league. In his first game for Bamberg, a 99:90 victory over Göttingen, the player called "Duci" had set a new Bundesliga record with 55 points. He also played for Bamberg in the 1977/78 season and, as in the previous year, was the team's best point collector. After two years in Bamberg, he left the Franks.

After his playing career, Simonović, who had graduated with a doctorate in philosophy, worked as a writer. He made headlines as a critic of the Olympic movement and professional sport. Sometimes he worked as a basketball trainer: first in his home country, then in Norway, in 1987 he became a trainer in Bamberg, but they separated again during the 1987/88 season.
