Lyubomir Ognyanov-Risor

Ljubomir Ognjanow-Risor (born May 16, 1910 in Jambol , † 1987 ) was a Bulgarian Germanist and translator.

Life

He studied German and Slavic studies in Sofia and worked for communist and left-wing press organs. Around 1930 there were contacts between left-wing writers in Germany and Bulgaria through him . In the period after 1944 he worked in publishing and film. From 1961 he was then professor for modern German literature at the University of Sofia .

In his academic work he dealt with studies on classical German literature and also published on translation studies.

He has translated works by Anna Seghers , Johannes R. Becher , Martin Andersen Nexø and William Shakespeare , among others .
