Ljubomir Iliew Vessow ( Bulgarian Любомир Илиев Весов , born August 30, 1892 in Veles , † November 5, 1922 near Ostrillci ) was a Bulgarian poet and revolutionary who took part in the Macedonian struggle for freedom.

Life

Wessow was born in Veles in 1892. In the first Balkan War he fought (as a member of the BMARK ) with distinction in the Macedonia-Adrianople Volunteer Corps of the Bulgarian Army . During the First World War Wessow was city commander of Kruševo . After the war he studied at the University of Sofia , where he co-founded the revolutionary student association Вардар (Vardar) in 1920 . When Wessow was surrounded by Serbian police in the village of Ostrillci in 1922, he committed suicide .

Ljubomir Wessow created patriotic and love poems influenced by symbolism , which were collectively published posthumously . He also translated poems from Russian. The Bulgarian literary scholar Rumen Stojanow compared the poems of Vessov with contemporary Bulgarian poetry in 2007 and praised their purity and empathy.
