Lyudmyla Shuravlowa

Ljudmyla Wassyliwna Schurawlowa ( Ukrainian Людмила Василівна Журавльова , Russian Людмила Васильевна Журавлёва Lyudmila Vasilyevna Schurawljowa ) (* 22. May 1946 in Kozmodemyansk ) is a Ukrainian - Soviet astronomer .

Life

Born in Kosmodemjansk in the Mari ASSR , Shuravlowa attended middle school and then evening school for working young people (Школа рабочей молодёжи, ШРМ) in neighboring Voskressensky Rajon . In 1970 she finished her studies at Gorky University in Yekaterinburg as a mathematician. From May 1972 to June 1998 Shuravlowa was a research assistant in the Crimean group of the Institute for Theoretical Astronomy in Leningrad . From June 1998 until her retirement in December 2003 she worked at the Crimean astrophysical observatory in Nautschnyj , also as a research assistant.

Research performance

Shuravlyova discovered numerous asteroids , including (4086) Podalirius , (3108) Lyubov and (2374) Vladvysotskij . With more than 200 asteroids discovered between 1972 and 1992 (including 13 together with others), it is one of the most successful asteroid explorers.

Honors

In 1984, Shuravlova received the medal for the discovery of new astronomical objects of the Astronomical Council of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)).

The asteroid (26087) Zhuravleva was named after her on August 31, 2012.

The Supreme Council of Russia awarded her Public Recognition (No. 4158) in 2016 . In March 2018, Shuravlowa was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Voskressensky Rajon .
