Loch Finlaggan is a freshwater lake on the Scottish island of Islay (Inner Hebrides). It stretches in the northeast of the island from southwest to northeast and is, next to Loch Gorm , the longest lake on Islay with a length of 1 km. It is located in the “Finlaggan Fault” between the mountains “Cnoc an Tighe” (170 m) in the west and “Robolls Hill” (130 m) in the east and shows the typically elongated shape created by glaciers in the Ice Age.

There are three islands in the lake, all of which have archaeological sites. The island "Eilean Mòr" (Big Island) was the seat of the Lord of the Isles and from the 12th to the 16th centuries the MacDonald clan . There are ruins of several buildings on the island, including a palace and a chapel. Council meetings may have been held on Eilean na Comhairle (Council Island). The man-made prehistoric island ( Crannóg ) "Eilean Mhuireill" ( location ), located about halfway on the east coast, may have served as a prison for some time. "Eilean Mòr" and "Eilean na Comhairle" and an area northwest of the lake are listed under the designation "Finlaggan, settlement, burial ground and assembly site" ( location ). To the northeast of the lake are prehistoric menhirs ( here and here ).
