Bally Grant ( gaelic : Baile a 'Ghràna ) is a location in the North East of the Scottish Hebriden -Insel Islay . Administratively it belongs to the Council Area Argyll and Bute . Ballygrant is on the A846 , the island's main road, which connects the two port towns of Port Askaig and Port Ellen . A few hundred meters to the east is Loch Ballygrant and about 1.5 km to the north are the banks of the historically important Loch Finlaggan .
history
In the past, Ballygrant was the location of a nationally important whiskey distillery called Lossit (sometimes also known as Ballygrant ). This was founded in 1821, but closed again in 1860. The warehouses were then used by the nearby Caol Ila distillery for a few years .
