Port Askaig ( Gaelic : Port Asgaig ) is a small village on the Scottish island of Islay and is therefore in the Council Area Argyll and Bute . It is on the east coast of the island at the narrowest point of the Islay Sound that separates the islands of Islay and Jura . Besides Port Ellen, Port Askaig is the only important port on the island and is regularly visited by ferry boats. In addition, the ferry route to Jura is the only regular ferry connection to the island.
North of the village are two important whiskey distilleries , Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain .
