life and work

Buisman was trained at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam from 1965 to 1967 and at Ateliers '63 in Haarlem .

From 1974 to 1984 Buisman worked as a lecturer both at the Academy in Rotterdam (1974–1981) and at the Akademie voor Kunst en Vormgeving St. Joost (1978–1981) and in Arnhem (1982–1984).

Nature as a source of inspiration

Buisman's work follows phenomena of nature. At the beginning of his creative period he was primarily oriented towards forms of nature such as potatoes, plants and flowers. His study of botanical deformations with their charms he photographed and drew to lay down these processes, and he created works of Land Art . The living material literally grew together into its works of art.

In the 1970s he created Plastic Births in Nature , a series of multimedia works with photo series and texts on plant growth.

Buisman created his Phyllotaxis sculptures in the 1980s . Phyllotaxis is the study of leaf stand, whereby the leaves on round stems are viewed as they are arranged. Buisman used the spiral-shaped leaf stalks of the palm and bleached celery . His sculptures are made of wood , bronze , steel and concrete . In 1999 he created Phyllotaxis Irrsee , the Mondsee Land Art , on the Irrsee in Upper Austria .

In 2003 Buisman received the A. Roland Holst-Penning Prize for his complete works.
