De Ateliers (Amsterdam)

De Ateliers (formerly Ateliers '63 ) is an independent artists' institute in Amsterdam . From 1874 and 1875 it was the "Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten" (Reich Academy of Fine Arts) and is a registered cultural monument number: 527848.

It was founded in Haarlem in 1963 by Ger Lataster , Mari Andriessen, Nic Jonk, Theo Mulder and Wessel Couzijn .

In 1992 the former Rijksakademie building in the city center of Amsterdam was made available to the institute. It has 23 artist studios in which the participants can work for two years. Renowned artists, art critics and guests from home and abroad regularly visit their studios and accompany the inexperienced artists during their stay. De Ateliers are an internationally recognized institute. Today Dominic van den Boogerd is director.
