Life

Ger Lataster was the son of a miner. He studied at the Kunstnijverheidsschool in Maastricht and from 1941 to 1942 and 1946 to 1948 at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. In 1963 Lataster co-founded the alternative (art) academy '63 (later renamed Atelier '63 ) in Haarlem together with Mari Andriessen , Nic Jonk , Theo Mulder and Wessel Couzijn . (today: De Ateliers , Amsterdam). This institution should support young artists with the help of experienced colleagues.

Ger Lataster's painting in the style of abstract expressionism is characterized by the fact that he combines the most diverse and contradicting elements, techniques and materials. In 1959 he was a participant in documenta 2 in Kassel in the painting department.
