Jan Dibbets
Jan Dibbets (born May 9, 1941 in Weert , the Netherlands ) is a Dutch conceptual artist .
biography
Dibbets trained at St. Martin's School of Art in London . The artist is associated with landscape and conceptual art of the 1960s and 1970s. His work mainly revolves around light, observation, perspective and space. He became known through his early work in photography. The use of string and tape on smooth surfaces forms geometric figures that create perspective illusions through the camera, which in turn creates a second illusion according to which the figure is both inside and outside the plane of the image.
His project entitled TV As a Fireplace was created for Westdeutscher Rundfunk in 1969 and consisted of a log fire filmed by Gerry Schum . In the run-up to Christmas, it was broadcast every evening on seven days by WDR 3 at the end of the broadcast for three minutes on the newly introduced color television. The broadcasts were among the first unannounced and uncommented artistic interventions to be broadcast on television.
On April 15, 1969, the beaming ARD another film Schum entitled at 22.40 Land Art from. Part of this program was Jan Dibbets' 7.32 minute 16 mm color and sound film 12 Hours Tide Object with Correction of Perspective , which was shot on a Dutch beach.
Jan Dibbets was a participant in Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972, as an artist at Documenta 6 (1977) and Documenta 7 in 1982. From 1984 to 2004 Jan Dibbets taught as a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . In 2000 he created new stained glass windows for Blois Cathedral .
Dibbet's works are exhibited in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Museum De Pont in Tilburg and the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven , among others .
