Marijke van Warmerdam
Marijke van Warmerdam (born March 12, 1959 in Nieuwer-Amstel in the province of North Holland ) is a Dutch video artist and professor .
life and work
Marijke van Warmerdam lives and works in Amsterdam and Karlsruhe . She is a professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe .
Media she works with are photography, sculpture, installation and painting. Marijke van Warmerdam has been internationally known for her film loops since the 1990s. The 16mm and 35mm films are about everyday things. Often the films are moving pictures without sound that repeat themselves after a short period of time, which can have a hypnotic effect. Well-known works are “Handstand” (1992), “Skytypers” (1997), “Le retour du chapeau” (1998) and “In the distance "(2010).
