The Lochmühle is a former watermill on the Lotzebach in the Dresden town of Oberwartha .

history

The first documented mention of the Lochmühle as a monastery and leaning mill owned by the Oberwartha monastery estate dates back to 1400. The mill was originally a grain mill and was formerly known as the Buschmühle . The first owner known by name is Lorenz Schirmer in 1509. In 1709, the Saxon Elector August the Strong allowed the owner of the mill to build a windmill in order to ensure the operation of the grinder even in dry conditions; In addition, the Lochmühle was granted the liquor license . Johann Rudolph bought the mill in 1715 and his family owned it until the end of the 19th century. Today's mill building was built in 1809 by Johann Gottlieb Rudolph. A lease from 1822 certifies the Lochmühle two grinding courses and an attached bakery. Around 1840 the mill was expanded to include a saw frame. Erdmann Veith bought the mill in 1875, renovated it comprehensively and added a cutting passage; he also set up an inn, which was named Lochmühle Waldfrieden .

The mill operation was discontinued after the First World War and the Lochmühle continued to operate as a restaurant. The mill wheel was shut down in 1929, but remained on the building until it was processed into firewood in 1945 . In 1965, the Lochmühle was converted into a vacation home , which was used by the Deutsche Reichsbahn , the Greifenhain brown coal works union and the Leipzig metal works union.
