Loffo Camara (* 1925 in French West Africa ; † January 25, 1971 in Matoto Prison , Conakry , Guinea ) was a Guinean politician and member of the Politburo of the First Guinean Republic. After conflicts with President Ahmed Sékou Touré , she was expelled from all office, later arrested and executed.

Life

Loffo Camara was born in the French colony of French West Africa around 1925. She was trained as a midwife .

In the course of the burgeoning anti-colonial movement in the former colony, Camara joined the Democratic Party of Guinea (PDG) in Macenta, which was founded in 1947 . In the course of the independence proclaimed by Sékou Touré in 1958, she gained a mandate in the National Assembly of Guinea and became a member of the Central Committee of the PDG. She took over the duties of State Secretary for Social Affairs between 1961 and 1968.

At the party congress in November 1962, Camara joined a motion calling for members of the Politburo to be elected by existing, active party members and by all members. The application, which was rejected, was submitted by the applicants based on the appointment of Toumany Sangare and Fodéba Keita as members of the Politburo - both were friends of President Sékou Touré and previously had no positions within the party. After the eighth party conference of the PDG in 1967, Sékou Touré consolidated his power, made himself leader of the Guinean revolution and reduced the Politburo from 15 to 7 members. Camara lost her position.

After an attack by Portuguese colonial troops in December 1970, Camara was arrested on charges of treason. She was first transferred to a prison in Kindia and later, on January 24, 1971, to Conakry. On January 25, 1971, she was executed in Matoto Prison.
