Macenta is the capital of the Macenta prefecture in the Nzérékoré region in Guinea and has around 47,360 inhabitants (as of 1996).

geography

The city is surrounded by hills in Forest Guinea , in the southeast of Guinea; Liberia begins 20 kilometers southwest . It is surrounded by forest and agricultural land.

history

The city is predominantly inhabited by the Loma people and the Muslim Malinke . In 1996 there were 47,360 residents in the city.

economy

Tea, coffee, rice, cassava, kola nuts, fruits and palm trees are grown in the vicinity of the city for oil production. Macenta has a large market, a tea processing plant since 1968, an agricultural research station and a sawmill.

traffic

The national roads N2 and N10 cross in the city. There is one airport, Macenta Airport.
