Lower Staircase (English for Lower staircase ) represents the lower eastern section of the Skelton Glacier in East Antarctic Victoria Land . This section is located between the snowfield The Landing and the Clinker Bluff .
It was mapped and named in 1957 by the New Zealand crew of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958). The glacier section was a stage for the ascent to the polar plateau during this research trip on the march to the geographic South Pole .
