Logo (PLC)
Logo (own spelling LOGO! Or SIPLUS LOGO! ) Is a DDC module ( English Direct Digital Control ), i.e. a small programmable logic controller (PLC) from Siemens AG . It corresponds structurally to DIN 43880 so that it fits on the top hat rail of a distributor . Example applications are lighting control, roller shutter control or simple automation.
programming
The program for the control is created either directly on the device with the buttons or more conveniently with the LogoSoft Comfort software on the PC . A graphic circuit diagram is drawn in a function plan (FBD) or ladder diagram (LAD) from logical gates using drag and drop . Other programming languages as specified in the EN 61131 standard are not supported. In addition to eight logic functions ( AND , OR , XOR , etc.), other special functions (e.g. switch-on and switch-off delay, operating hours and pulse counters, self-holding relays, PI controllers and much more) are integrated. LogoSoft Comfort also allows you to test the program in a simulator without having to transfer it to the controller.
Expansion options
The LOGO! can be expanded to up to 24 digital inputs, 20 digital outputs, 8 analog inputs and 8 analog outputs (from version LOGO! 8) and can therefore also control more complex systems. It can also be equipped with a communication module for AS-Interface and for the EIB ( European installation bus ). The control is also available in versions with or without a display. From version 0BA6 an external display (LOGO! TD) can also be used. Version 0BA7, introduced in 2011, has a slot for SD cards and an Ethernet interface. It is thus possible to use several LOGO! network with each other (up to 9 participants). Communication with control panels and other Siemens controls is also possible.
With the current version LOGO! 8, the networking function has been significantly simplified for the user. In addition, this version received hardware improvements, such as a larger display with background lighting that can be controlled in different colors, a slot for a micro SD card and an integrated web server. A Texas Instruments 32- bit ARM Cortex-M4F of the type TM4C1290NCPDT is used as the processor .

Small controllers such as Siemens LOGO! are increasingly being used in industry , especially for smaller tasks such as controlling compressors, lifting platforms, conveyor belts, traffic lights or gate controls.
