Lohner yard
The Lohner-Hof is a building in the 9th Viennese district of Alsergrund in Pramergasse 10th
history
The Lohner-Hof was built in 1884 by the architect Alois Sallatmeyer for the bodywork manufacturer Franz Lohner . The five-story street wing was built as an apartment building, the courtyard was used as a riding school and stables. From 1913 the cavalry of the Vienna Security Guard was housed there.
The building captivates with its high arched portal with a wedge which probably shows the portrait bust of the client. As a reference to the riding school, a carved horse's head can be seen in the arch of the gate leaf.
After the Reichskristallnacht around a thousand Jewish men were locked up in the riding school for the transport to Dachau .
In the post-war period the riding school was used as a garage by the US crew.
