history

There are four villages called Rzepiennik on the river of the same name, about 15 kilometers long, from northwest to southeast: Rzepiennik Marciszewski, Rzepiennik Strzyżewski, Rzepiennik Biskupi and Rzepiennik Suchy. Rzepiennik Strzyżewski was founded in 1347 under the founding privilege of King Casimir the Great by Pawel and Mikołaj by Wola Chynowska. The name Rzepiennik is derived from the word rzepa ( turnip ), the adjective Strzyżowski is derived from the Strzeż family, who owned the village in the 15th century.

During the first partition of Poland , Rzepiennik Biskupi came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Rzepiennik Biskupi came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . In 1941–1942 there was a Jewish ghetto there. In July 1942 over 360 Jews were killed.

From 1975 to 1998 Rzepiennik Biskupi was part of the Tarnów Voivodeship .
