history

Bierbaum train station
Former Neudau station building

The construction of the railway was based on the concession document of July 22, 1890 for the local railway from Fürstenfeld to Hartberg with a branch [ from one point ... at Bierbaum via Burgau ] to Neudau . The line from Bierbaum to Neudau was opened on October 19, 1891 for general passenger and freight traffic.

The main customer of the railroad in freight traffic was an industrial company in Neudau. Since nothing was invested in maintenance or expansion for years, the condition of the superstructure and substructure deteriorated considerably in the last few years of operation, and the route was only passable at speeds of 20 km / h and less. Passenger traffic ceased on December 12, 1987, all operations on December 31, 1988, and soon afterwards the entire track was removed.
