The Moravské Budějovice – Jemnice railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated as a state-guaranteed local railway Mährisch Budwitz – Jamnitz (Czech: Místní dráha Moravské Budějovice – Jemnice ). It leads in Moravia from Moravské Budějovice ( Mährisch Budwitz ) to Jemnice ( Jamnitz ). The route has been entirely protected as a cultural monument since 1996 .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On September 9th, 1894, the gentlemen " Alfred Freiherr von Wražda, landowner in Pullitz, Josef Augusta, mayor in Jamnitz, Dr. Friedrich Heidler, notary in Jamnitz and Eduard Lahoda, Fürstlich Lichtenstein'scher Oberverwalter in Budkau ... granted the right to build and operate a standard-gauge local train from the Mährisch Budwitz station of the Austrian Northwest Railway to Jamnitz ” . The company was founded in Vienna in 1895 with a share capital of 160,000 guilders :

The line was opened on November 9, 1896. The operation was carried out by the kk Austrian State Railways (kkStB) on behalf of the local railway Mährisch Budwitz – Jamnitz .

On January 1, 1925, the local line Mährisch Budwitz – Jamnitz was nationalized by law and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . The 2009 timetable recorded a total of seven pairs of trains on working days, which ran every two hours. Some of the trains were tied to and from Okříšky or Znojmo .

On July 24, 1996, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic declared the route a cultural monument because of its importance as a unique technical monument in Kraj Vysočina . In addition to the route, the stations Jemnice, Třebelovice and Dědice are explicitly protected as part of the entity " železniční trať Jemnice - Moravské Budějovice, železniční stanice Jemnice, Třebelovice, Dědice " with the number 1000125566.

As of December 31, 2010, passenger traffic on the Moravské Budějovice – Jemnice route was discontinued. Since then, nostalgia trains have been running on summer weekends.

From the 2018 timetable year, Kraj Vysočina will once again order travel services on the route as the responsible body for local public transport. Four pairs of trains are planned for the weekends between Easter and the beginning of November. The railway company responsible for three of the four pairs of trains is Railway Capital . The fourth is run by the Association for Public Transport in Southwest Moravia (Spolek pro veřejnou dopravu na jihozápadní Moravě, SVD-JZM), which uses a train with open observation cars.

The route operator SŽDC put the route up for sale in September 2017 for 94.7 million crowns. After no buyer was found, SŽDC reduced the price in January 2018 to only 8,377,000 crowns. In response to the order for transport services from Kraj Vysočina, SŽDC withdrew the offer to sell on February 26, 2018.

Vehicle use

On account of the local railway Mährisch Budwitz – Jamnitz , the kkStB procured two locomotives of the 97 series . The locomotives had the road numbers 97.96 and 97.97.

Today, only the proven two-axle railcars of the ČD series 810 are used on the route.
