Grunewald Locomotive Research Office

The Lokomotiv-Versuchsamt Grunewald (abbreviation LVA) was a facility in Berlin-Grunewald that existed from 1920 to 1945 and carried out tests on railway vehicles. The office used facilities of the Grunewald railway repair shop on the Stadtbahn southwest of the Westkreuz .

After the establishment of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft in 1925, the Railway Central Office (EZA), which had existed since 1906, was renamed the Reichsbahn Central Office (RZA). Among other things, it carried out numerous tests on steam locomotives and created the scientific basis for measuring the performance of rail vehicles . It has been supported by the Locomotive Research Office in the main railway workshop in Grunewald since 1920. In 1936, 152 employees worked for the research office.

In 1945 the work in Grunewald ended due to the war and was continued in the GDR in the RAW Dessau as well as in Halle and in the Federal Republic of Germany first in Göttingen, later in Minden and Munich .

The office had measuring vehicles , a roller test bench with water vortex brakes for locomotives and test benches for various vehicle components.
