The Maybachstrasse locomotive shed is a listed locomotive shed in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located in Magdeburg's Altstadt district , east of Maybachstrasse.

Architecture and history

The locomotive shed was built around 1873 for the Berlin-Potsdam-Magdeburg railway company . It was part of the Central Railway Station, which was built from 1871 to 1873 by the Magdeburg-Leipzig and Berlin-Potsdam-Magdeburg railway companies . On the city side, it was in the immediate vicinity of the Magdeburg Fortress . The locomotive shed, built from bricks on a rectangular floor plan, is elongated and provided with segmental arched windows. There are three entrances and three exits on each of the narrow sides to the north and south of the building and are spanned by large segmental arches and clad gables . There is a segmented arched roof on which a skylight is placed. Filigree iron trusses in sickle shape serve as supports.

In the local register of monuments , the locomotive shed is listed as a monument under registration number 094 18270 .

The engine shed is considered representative document from the time of private companies and most impressive object obtained the late nineteenth station rebuilding of the Central station.
