Lol Mohammed Chawa

Lol Mohammed Chawa (born June 15, 1939 in Mao , † September 15, 2019 in N'Djamena ) was President of Chad from April 29, 1979 to August 21, 1979 .

He was the leader of an insignificant faction in the rebel army FROLINAT and apparently came to the highest office of the state as a compromise candidate for the two warlords Hissène Habré and Goukouni Oueddei . In 1991 and 1992 he was mayor of the capital of Chad .

In 1991 he founded the Collection for Democracy and Progress , of which he remained chairman until 2008. In 1996 he ran for president of the Collection for Democracy and Progress (RDP) and received 5.93% of the vote.

Chawa was an ethnic Kanembu .
