Lona Murowatz

Appollonia (Lona) Murowatz (born February 8, 1919 in Filzmoos , today the municipality of Sankt Jakob im Walde , Styria ; † September 9, 2016 in Wiener Neustadt ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1968 to 1981 she was a member of the National Council .

Life

Lona Murowatz attended elementary and secondary school. She then worked in a bookstore in Wiener Neustadt .

Murowatz died at the age of 97 in Wiener Neustadt, where she is also buried

Political offices

Murowatz was initially active in the Austrian children's friends . In 1960 she moved to the Wiener Neustadt municipal council , of which she was a member until 1980. From 1965 to 1968 she was active as a councilor for culture. The high point of her political career was between 1968 and 1981, when Murowatz was a member of the Austrian National Council . During this time she was involved in many laws in the area of family , private and criminal law , in particular the regulations on deadlines for abortion.

The focus of Murowatz's political work was women's politics . In the SPÖ, Murowatz became a member of the federal women's committee and deputy chairwoman of the state women's committee of Lower Austria in 1968. In 1972 she became chairwoman of the district women's committee and deputy district chairwoman of the SPÖ Wiener Neustadt.

In 1964 Murowatz became chairwoman of the women's department of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions in Lower Austria.
