Long Island is located in the Whitsunday Islands on the east coast of Queensland in Australia . The island is located one kilometer from the mainland coastline. It belongs to the group of Molle Islands and extends for 9 kilometers in length and reaches 500 meters at its widest point. Officially, the archipelago belongs to the Cumberland Islands . The closest major location is Airlie Beach .

The Molle Islands were an area of the Ngaro Aboriginal tribe , who were hunter-gatherers for about 9,000 years . They lived nomadically with boats on the islands. After the islands of this sea area were discovered and settled by the Europeans, the white colonialists confronted the Aborigines , who were thereby displaced from their original habitat and exterminated.

Much of the island is part of the Molle Islands National Park . There are three hotel resorts on this tourist island: Ocean Hotel Long Island Resort, Peppers Palm Bay and Paradise Bay, the latter being a nudist resort . The island can be reached by boat from Shute Harbor . There are three named beaches on the island: Happy Bay, Palm Bay and Sandy Bay. Flying boats can enter a certain zone in front of the island.
