Longino Soto Pacheco

Longino Soto Pacheco (born October 12, 1923 , † October 13, 2010 in San José ) was a Costa Rican medic , football official and politician .

He completed his medical degree in 1947 as a surgeon at the Universidad Autónoma de México . He then specialized in general surgery, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery in the USA. The founding member of the Escuela de Medicina of the Universidad de Costa Rica was on March 8, 1991 head of the medical team for the first heart transplant carried out in Costa Rica. In total, Soto Pacheco has participated in 25 heart transplants in his medical career. The politically active Costa Rican was also president of the Federación Costarricense de Fútbol . Under his presidency, the national team of his home country could for the first time in 1990 for a soccer world championshipto qualify. Soto Pacheco died at the age of 87 in the Hospital Clínica Católica and was buried in the Cementerio Montesacro in Curridabat .
