Glass eel through the online microscope (" in situ ") of the LEO project

Longtime Ecological Observatory (LEO for short) is a project off the coast of New Jersey (USA) under the initiative of Rutgers University , Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences. Here, processes in the ocean are to be recorded with the help of IT systems. Sensors for measuring temperature , salinity , transmission, light, attenuation , fluorescence , pressure and flow are already installed .

As soon as technically higher internet speeds are possible, it should be possible to observe and evaluate plankton directly online. This is to be achieved with quantitative in-situ microscopes ( ecoSCOPE ), which allow insights into the marine world, such as the history of eels .
