Lope de Rueda (* around 1510 in Seville ; † 1565 ) was one of the first dramatic poets in Spain .

Life

Rueda was initially a gold beater , but went out of inclination to a group of actors , where he worked as an artist and author and whose director he was. He played with extraordinary success in Seville, Córdoba , Valencia , Segovia and, as they say, also at the court of Philip II. In Córdoba he wrote his last will on March 21, 1565, but was already so weakened that he no longer signed it could and probably died shortly afterwards.

According to Cervantes , Lope de Rueda is buried in the Cathedral of Cordoba. He was married twice, first to the poorly reputed actress Mariana , who later became the mistress of the Duke of Medinaceli , and for the second time to Rafaela Angela, with whom he had a daughter.

His dramatic works published posthumously (Valencia 1567, Sevilla 1576, Logroño 1588), a selection of which in Böhl de Faber's Teatro antiguo español (Hamburg 1832) and Ochoa's Tesoro del teatro español (Paris 1838) as well as in the Biblioteca de autores españoles , volume 2, consists of four comedies , two pastoral talks and twelve so-called pasos , small burlesque games that are to be regarded as forerunners of the later interludes ( entreméses ) and are characterized by naturalistic descriptions of everyday life, wit and humor, but especially the excellent ones Distinguish language. Rueda introduced certain characters into the play as standing roles; the division of the plays into acts is also attributed to him. Moritz Rapp's Spanish Theater , Volume 1 (Hildburghausen, 1868) contains a selection of his pieces in German translation .
