Lopper tunnel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Loppertunnel is a tunnel on the Swiss A8 motorway and connects the town of Hergiswil in the canton of Nidwalden with the Obwalden Alpnachstad . At the Lopper junction , the A8 motorway coming from the direction of Interlaken , Brünigpass and Sarnen joins the north-south axis A2 at the north portal of the Loppertunnel . To the south, this happens through a junction inside the mountain and a 350 m long connecting tunnel to the Kirchenwald tunnel . The south portal is on the south flank of the Lopper directly on the Alpnachersee .

In addition to the road tunnel described here, there are two railway tunnels through the Lopper, the 1186 meter long Loppertunnel I from 1889 on the Brünigbahn between Hergiswil and Alpnachstad and the 1743 meter long Loppertunnel II from 1964 on the Luzern-Stans-Engelberg-Bahn between Hergiswil and the Acheregg .
