Neighboring lake of the Vierwaldstättersee |
The Alpnachersee is not an independent lake , but a branch of the Vierwaldstättersee . It lies in the two cantons of Nidwalden and Obwalden and is around 4.8 km long and 1.4 km wide. The southern flank of the Pilatus massif borders the northern bank. In particular, the Lopper slides like a bolt between the Alpnachersee and the Horwerbucht of the Vierwaldstättersee. The southeast bank mostly rises steeply to the Mueterschwanderberg (with the underground fortress Mueterschwanderberg ) or to the Rotzberg with the Rotzberg castle ruins .
At the Acheregg in Stansstad , the Alpnachersee flows into the Vierwaldstättersee. There bridges for the A2 motorway , Kantonsstrasse 4 and the Luzern-Stans-Engelberg-Bahn cross the bottleneck across the lake. At its southernmost tip lies Alpnachstad , a district of Alpnach , a little northeast of the Niederstad district . Rotzloch , a town in the municipality of Ennetmoos, is located on the northeast bank .
The tributaries of the Alpnacher See are the Sarner Aa , the Kleine Schliere , the Hüenerbach and Giessenbach brooks when camping in Alpnachstad and the Widibach and Wolfortbach brooks near Niederstad and the Mehlbach brook near Rotzloch.
The Alpnachersee is used by windsurfers and wakeboarders due to its good wind conditions - especially around the Lopper .
