Lora Szafran

Lora Szafran (born July 24, 1960 in Krosno ) is a Polish singer ; she is considered one of the most outstanding Polish jazz vocalists , but is also successful in the field of pop music .

Act

Szafran graduated with honors from the Jazz and Pop Music Department at the Katowice Music Academy in 1986 . As a student, she worked with the fusion band Walk Away . In 1984 she won first prize at the International Meeting of Jazz Vocalists in Zamość.

From 1988 she worked with the acoustic jazz formation New Presentation . With this group she released two records: Lonesome Dancer (awarded Jazz Record of the Year 1989) and You've Changed (1993). Szafran also took part in international pop song festivals. For example, she won the Grand Prix of the Sopot Festival in 1990. The result of her work in pop music are the two records W górę głowa (1991) and Tylko Chopin (1994).

In 2003 she released the album Śpiewnik Nahornego , which brought together the most popular compositions by the composer and pianist Włodzimierz Nahorny . In 2005 Lora started working with the vocal trio Big Stars , performed at the Opole and Sopot singing festivals and won third prize in Sopot (2006). In 2007 she released the album Droga do Ciebie with singer Bogdan Hołownia , which contains jazz interpretations of Polish standards by Wasowski & Przybora.

In 2012 Szafran released the album Sekrety Życia Według Leonarda Cohena , on which she presented songs by Leonard Cohen in Polish translations. This was awarded gold in Poland . The following year her album Nad Ranem was released with songs by Seweryn Krajewski , Michał Urbaniak , Miłosz Wośko and Tomek Krawczyk to texts by Jonasz Kofta, Andrzej Poniedzielski, Adam Nowak, Dariusz Dusza and Piotr Brymas.
