Karwan Marouf (2019)

Karwan Marouf (* 11. December 1976 in Mödling ) is an Austrian composer , multi-instrumentalist and music producer of many award-winning national and international game - and documentaries .

Live and act

Karwan Marouf was born in Mödling and grew up in Vienna, where he still lives and works today. The musician of Kurdish origin played in various indie rock bands in his teenage years and, especially in the late 1990s, dealt intensively with electronic music and film music. In 2003 Marouf wrote the first soundtrack for the documentary film "The Souvenirs of Mr. X" by the Austrian-Iranian director Arash T. Riahi .

Subsequently, Marouf and Riahi continued to work together. For example for the film drama “A Moment of Freedom”, which was submitted as an Oscar application in the category “Best Foreign Language Film” in 2008. Since then, Marouf has primarily made a name for himself as a composer of numerous feature and documentary films. He wrote the Flimscores for "Everyday Rebellion" (2013), "Nelly" (2015), "Die Migrantigen" (2017), "The last party of your life" (2018) and "We stay a little bit" (2020). Marouf's music was nominated for the Austrian Film Prize 2020 for the comedy film "Kaviar".

Other fields of activity

Marouf has released two albums so far under the pseudonym " Karuan ". The debut album "Dohuki Ballet" (2002) attracted international attention with its mixture of oriental and electronic elements. Several singles and EPs followed, and in 2007 another album was released with “Pop Arif”. In 2008 “Pop Arif” was nominated in the category “FM4 Alternative Act of the Year” at the Amadeus Austrian Music Award.
