The dam Khun Dan Prakarn Chon is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the district of Mueang Nakhon Nayok Province Nakhon Nayok , Thailand . It dams the Nakhon Nayok to a reservoir.
The dam is used for power generation, irrigation and flood protection. Construction began in 2001. The dam is owned and operated by the Royal Irrigation Department (RID).
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a gravity dam made of rolled concrete with a height of 93 m. The length of the top of the wall is 2594 m; it is at an altitude of 112 m above sea level . The volume of the structure is 5.47 million m³.
To the right of the dam is a side dam with a height of 46 m. The length of the dam crest is 350 m; their width is 8 m. The volume of the earthfill dam is 1.22 million m³.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 182 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 1454 m³ / s via the flood discharge. In addition, there are two other drains that can be used to drain 42 and 6 m³ / s.
Reservoir
With a maximum storage target of 110 m, the reservoir holds 224 million m³ of water.
power plant
The installed capacity of the power plant with a Francis turbine is 10.7 MW . The annual production is 28 million kWh . The machine house is at the foot of the dam on the right.
The drop height is 66.65 m. The flow rate is 17.66 m³ / s. After the water has passed the turbine, it is used for irrigation purposes.
The power plant is owned by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and is also operated by EGAT. EGAT was granted permission to build the power plant in December 2006.
