Lord Lorne is a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of Scotland .

Awards

The title was created in 1438 for Robert Stewart , brother of Sir James Stewart of Lorne . His nephew, the 3rd Lord, renounced on April 17, 1470 in favor of his niece's husband, Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll, and was given the title of Lord Innermeath for compensation on the same day .

Accordingly, the title of Lord Lorne was newly created on April 17, 1470 in the second bestowal for Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll . This had already been raised to Earl of Argyll in 1457 . The title has since been a subordinate title of the Earls of Argyll, who have also had the parent title Duke of Argyll since 1701 . The current title holder has been Torquhil Campbell, 13th Duke of Argyll since 2001 , as 22nd Lord Lorne.
