A pronounced ergonomic shape of back supports is referred to as a lumbar support .

background

Doctors refer to the forward natural curvature of the human spine as lordosis . The lumbar spine (lumbar spine) usually has a lordosis, which means that it is curved towards the abdomen. This is held by the muscles on the abdomen of the lumbar spine . When these muscles are slack or fatigued, the lumbar spine gradually turns into a backward curve ( kyphosis ). If you stay in this posture for a long time, the lumbar spine extensors gradually shorten and fix the kyphosis as a malposition. The normal lordosis of the lumbar spine should be supported with a pronounced lumbar support.

Applications

Application For lumbar supports on chairs , car seats and bed bases of beds . Muscles can sag due to fatigue, especially during office work and on long car journeys. Manufacturers of office chairs and cars therefore offer adjustable lumbar supports, which ensure a relaxed posture and relief of the spine. The lumbar support is integrated in the backrest of the office chair or car seat.

Physically handicapped drivers can be more severely affected by spinal impairments . In the context of the motor vehicle adaptation for physically handicapped people , the standard seat is therefore exchanged for one with a pronounced lumbar support, even in motor vehicles, if there is a corresponding need .
