Loren Windom

Loren Gregory Windom (born August 12, 1905 in Columbus (Ohio) , † February 1, 1988 there ) was an American officer.

Loren Windom graduated from Ohio State University with a law degree . He was a member of the Ohio National Guard and served in the Philippines during World War II , where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross . As an officer, he achieved the rank of major general and was commander of the 37th Infantry Division until 1965. From 1959 to 1963 he was the senior officer in the Ohio National Guard.

As a radio amateur with the callsign W8GZ he became known for the Windom dipole antenna he described .
