Lorenz Alleintz (van Hove) , also Alleyns , (* before 1550 in Antwerp ; † June 17, 1626 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a cantor and teacher.

Live and act

Lorenz Alleintz actually wanted to translate common chants of the German Lutheran Church and add folk Flemish melodies to them. He left Antwerp, where supporters of Lutheranism were not tolerated, moved to Frankfurt and was therefore unable to carry out his project. In 1573, the city council appointed him "German schoolmaster". Four years later he acquired Frankfurt citizenship and from 1610 repeatedly held the office of "older head of school". He was also active as a cantor , schoolmaster and deacon and on the board of the Dutch congregation in Augsburg .

In 1580 Alleintz published a translation of the Lutheran Catechism . He also translated many hymns into French. Several important merchant families emerged from his descendants, including the Melber and von Metzler families .
