Lorenz Knauer

Lorenz Knauer (born July 29, 1953 in Munich ) is a German film director for documentaries .

Career

Knauer, born in Munich, grew up in London, the USA and Berlin, among others. After graduating from high school and studying in Munich, he first worked as a freelance writer and later switched to the film business. In 1990 he co-directed the film Guns: A Day in the Death of America with Malcolm Clarke , which ran on HBO . The film was released in Germany under the title Gun Mania: The War in the Streets of America .

He then worked for the German public television broadcasters in documentaries about the Danube .

His documentary Jane's Journey , which tells the life story of British behavioral scientist Jane Goodall , was nominated for the 2012 Academy Awards and made it onto the shortlist, but was not considered for the final ceremony because one opted for the film Pina von Wim Wenders decided.

Knauer is the father of one son.
