Lorenz Peiffer

Friedrich Lorenz Peiffer (born June 27, 1947 in Oldenburg ) is a German sports historian.

Life

After studying physical exercise and history at the Georg-August University of Göttingen (first state examination in 1971 with Wilhelm Henze ), he received his doctorate in 1975 at the TU Braunschweig , was from 1976 to 1986 research assistant at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster with Hans Langenfeld , there habilitation in 1986, over two years as a research associate of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sport history was on his way to the professorship at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Hanover . There he was repeatedly elected Managing Director. He is the editor of the sports historical journal SportZeiten ( Die Werkstatt publishing house , Göttingen).

His main research interests are football and gymnastics as well as sports during the Nazi era. In 2014 he received the Dr. Bernhard Zimmermann Prize from the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History. Peiffer is an appointed member of the German Academy for Football Culture .
